Before The Kernel had found an arch or ABInBev had considered buying a London brewery, there was Sambrook’s. Based in Battersea, they started in 2008 after Duncan Sambrook decided that London had gone far too long with only a handful of breweries to call its own. For years the only decent beer to find on bars around the city was their Wandle or Junction, they were an island of great beer amongst a whole load of dross. Although cask is really where they excel, they’ve also taken inspiration from the current trend in beers and their head brewer, Sean, has been brewing up some awesome stuff. Their recent Black IPA flew out on growler fill at both Clapham Junction and Balham, whilst their recent collaboration with Heretic, an American brown ale, is tasting superb and soon to go on tap at both stores.
