It’s been another busy week of beer buying with another 17 or so new beers hitting the shelves. International seems to be the theme as we welcome in new additions from New Zealand, Japan, America, Germany & Belgium. There are some UK treats instore though of course, including the mighty Unhuman Cannonball from Magic Rock. Here are our picks of the week and the full list can be seen as ever with our weekend menu below.
We really have to start with every beer geek’s fantasy – Unhuman Cannonball from Magic Rock Brewery is an intense triple IPA at 11%, brewed just once a year in very small quantities. Three times more hops than their ‘standard’ Cannonball, and even more than the double IPA Human Cannonball, this beer sells out on their website within 20 minutes of release. We’re very lucky (and just a bit excited) to have snagged a few bottles for our lovely customers but we only have 5 so you’ll have to be quick!
As the sun comes out all thoughts turn to summer and al fresco drinking. Which is where the highly quaffable Anchor Saison comes into it’s own. It’s a traditional Belgian style farmhouse ale with a Californian twist – namely the additions of Californian lemongrass, lemon peel and ginger.
Joining us from the other side of the planet, we’re pleased to add to our range of 8 Wired beers from New Zealand’s North Island. Tall Poppy is a bold red IPA that has been heavily hopped with American hops. It has an intense, sharp and fruity hoppiness which is backed by its complex, caramel-like malty structure. We’ve also got new New Zealand beers in from Three Boys & Renaissance Brewing.
Another beer from a far flung place, Hitachino Nest’s Commemorative Ale pours a dark amber and has been brewed with vanilla beans and spices (coriander, orange peel, nutmeg, cinnamon). It is brewed once annually to celebrate the new year.
Our final pick of the week is from Munich’s most famous brewery, Hofbrau. We have their original lager & dunkel arriving in this week to add a flair of German tradition to the shop. Crisp and clean, Hofbrau’s beers are the epitome of the Bavarian spirit and are best enjoyed in a make shift German beer hall (or whatever you call your sitting room).
The full list of new beers as well as what’s on growler fills are, as ever on the weekend menu for you below.
