If you follow us on Instagram, you’ll have probably noticed that we’ve recently started posting some guest reviews from one of our favourite Instagrammers, who goes by the name of @dejabrewlondon. The reason we chose to post guest reviews rather than just do our own is simple really – we love dejabrew’s style, his verbosity and love to be able to share what our community are drinking. But, given that not everyone is on Instagram, we thought it would be good to share the reviews here on our blog as well, starting belatedly with a round of April’s posts. Enjoy!

🚨 New feature alert – we’re excited to be bringing you a weekly guest review from one of our favourite beer reviewers, @dejabrewlondon. The format is pretty self-explanatory so we’re going to launch right in…⁣ 🍺⁣ Brewery: @gipsyhillbrew⁣⁣ Beer: Trekker DIPA 8.2%⁣⁣ Taste: 8.5/10⁣⁣ Review: @dejabrewlondon⁣⁣ 🍺⁣⁣ It’s been a rollercoaster few weeks in the craft beer world; bottle shops have been closing, craft breweries have been selling out to macro breweries and finally, the ‘Tesco craft’ hype train has well and truly ploughed its way through the community, picking up a heck of a lot of passengers on the way. I didn’t bother getting a ticket myself, instead, I decided to support local business. Specifically here, at my local bottle shop, @webroughtbeer, by spanking some cash on some amazing beers!⁣⁣ 🍺⁣⁣ Just before the very sad announcement regarding the closure of We Brought Beer’s Clapham Junction shop due to the landlord making “unreasonable rent terms”, owner James reached out to me and asked if I wanted to review beers on behalf of the business, which represented an opportunity for me to support this local business and further contribute to the craft beer community. Of course, I accepted immediately.⁣⁣ 🍺⁣⁣ I considered it important then, to begin by reviewing something brewed locally, further supporting local trade. So, here we have a @gipsyhillbrew ‘Trekker’ DIPA at 8.2%. I’ve not had one of their beers in a while but I’ve been drinking them for ages. This one did not disappoint. Although the pour looked like an old school DIPA, it tasted new wave. I thought it would be light, malty and overly bitter – not something I usually look for in a DIPA – but it wasn’t. Trekker is a big, boozy fruit salad of a beer with a balanced bitterness and a mild sweetness. There’s lots of stone fruit flavours with some lovely dank pine, resin, grass and citrus lemon too. The mouthfeel is beautifully oily with a fine carbonation and overall, an enjoyable drinking experience throughout. Photographed in Regent’s Park last week, as I ‘trekked’ from Oxford Circus to Camden for a gig!⁣⁣ 🍺⁣⁣

🍺 Guest Review Time 🍺⁣ ⁣ Brewery: @wanderbeyondbrewing⁣ Beer: ‘Nautiloid’⁣ Style: Imperial Milkshake IPA with orange and mandarin⁣ ABV: 12%⁣ Taste: 9.5/10⁣ Review: @dejabrewlondon⁣ 🍺⁣ Just like that, another weekend has passed us by but I hope you’ve all had a few amazing beers! It goes without saying that I have and for this week’s post, I’m sharing something very special. Whenever I see anything by @wanderbeyondbrewing I instantly get a tingling sensation in my wallet and feel compelled to act. All my little pound coins start getting cabin fever and need to be released back into the wild, so, I do the honourable thing and hand them over to @webroughtbeer.⁣ 🍺⁣ My weekend took me to the south coast as I was cycling a 130km sportive in the New Forest. I had appropriately lined up this beer to drink afterwards as a refreshing celebration of what ended up being a punishingly quick, four and a half hour ride and what a decision that was, drinking it after! I’ve named this beer Lloyd. Lloyd is naughty. ‘Naughty Lloyd’. If you don’t get it already, as I’ve mentioned above, it’s called ‘Nautiloid’ and at 12%, it’s pretty damn naughty.⁣ 🍺⁣ This fat imperial is an absolute beauty to look at and a monster to drink. The name is inspired by the nautiloid sea creature that Wander Beyond think looks like a peeled orange…brilliant! Don’t let the ABV put you off; this beer hides it pretty well and is absolutely unreal. There’s both a sweetness and a tartness to this beast (how is that even possible) with a tiny bit of bitterness but absolutely packed full of orange and mandarin flavours. It’s HUGE. Smooth as silk, velvety soft and delivering a thick and juicy character, I found it very difficult to put down. Or drink slowly. This led me to being a little light-headed and by the end, I’d decided that actually, it is quite boozy! Think of this as a very drinkable, boozy Bucks Fizz that hides its ABV! ⁣ 🍺⁣ #wanderbeyond #nautiloid #imperial #imperialmilkshake #londonbeer #manchesterbeer #instabeer #ratebeer #booze #beerreviews #session #sessionIPA #IPA #DIPA #TIPA #NEIPA #stout #beer #craft #craftbeer #ale #london #craftbeer #dejabrewlondon #cheers #londonlife

🍺 Guest Review Time 🍺 Brewery: @brewbynumbers X @hobsonsbrewery Beer: ‘Mosaic & Citra’ (v2) Style: Pale Ale ABV: 4.6% Taste: 8/10 Review: @dejabrewlondon 🍺 The first Bank Holiday weekend was a blinder, wasn’t it! Four days of lovely hot sunshine and nothing but good vibes! Hopefully everyone had a great long weekend! When the weather’s this nice, sometimes all you crave is a crisp and refreshing pale ale that you know you can session on all day long. My last two reviews were big, beautiful DIPAs but not everyone can handle them and they’re not always suitable! So, enter something more sessionable to kick back with… 🍺 This is just the pale ale you need on a warm spring day, it’s a 4.6% ‘Mosaic & Citra’ by local London lot @brewbynumbers in collaboration with @hobsonsbrewery. I’ve got to say though, the name of this beer is a bit low rent isn’t it! It’s a BBNo rebrew of the original brewed at Hobsons but it could have at least been called ‘Bowler’ or something else! Anyway, back on track. This pale, when I first had it from BBNo’s taproom in Bermondsey was fruity, floral, light and hoppy with little bitterness but from the can I enjoyed it a lot more. The hops shone through beautifully and it has lots of sharp but refreshing citrus. There’s a decent level of peach, passion fruit and guava to balance it all out and it still has a nice, floral profile to it. Light and crisp with a lovely yeasty backbone, this beer has been brewed with a traditional English ale yeast but it’s is far from traditional tasting; it’s a solid modern pale ale and highly smashable. 🍺 #brewbynumbers #hobsons #mosaicandcitra #heacham #heachambeach #easter #instabeer #ratebeer #booze #beerreviews #session #sessionIPA #IPA #DIPA #TIPA #NEIPA #stout #beer #craft #craftbeer #ale #london #craftbeer #dejabrewlondon #cheers #londonlife #craftnotcrap #beerporn #beeroftheday #beergram

Guest Review Time! 🍺 Brewery: @cloudwaterbrew Beer: Dance Like Everyone Is Watching Style: DDH IPA ABV: 6.5% Taste: 8.5/10 Review: @dejabrewlondon 🍺 If like myself you think many Cloudwater beers look similar, you still have to concede they do jump off the shelf. This one was no exception last week when I nipped into @webroughtbeer to see if Dom the Manager had put his keg of Deya’s Saturated In Simcoe on. He had! So, I sat in with a half and after a chat about all things beer (obviously), I settled on this to review for the week. 🍺 If you’re anywhere near @webroughtbeer Balham, this 6.5% ‘Dance Like Everyone Is Watching’ DDH IPA is a must. I knew it would be decent as it was brewed especially for Hop City 2019 to celebrate pouring with some of the best hop-focussed breweries in the UK and beyond. It’s dank and juicy with flavours of sticky citrus tangerine, sweet mango, sharp and bitter grapefruit and a lovely piney character that balances it out. Fruity and smooth, it also has a low carbonation and a big hoppy aroma – it’s so drinkable and if you’re a little bit of a monster, definitely sessionable too! 🍺 Hop City then. I didn’t make it myself but it seemed everyone who did had an absolutely superb time and the beers I saw being smashed looked class! I picked this one up even more especially though, as I’d like to dedicate it to my two mates @the_beer_experience and @julessmallshaw, who attended Hop City together and who’s Instagram stories that weekend were full of hilariously entertaining boozy antics, after-party karaoke and of course, some naughty looking dance moves that demonstrated they clearly had the philosophy of ‘Dance Like Everyone Is Watching’…and I’m sure everyone was! Whores of the dance floors. Also, Mr Beer Experience loves a floral photo, so that’s for you mate! 🍺 #cloudwater #ddhipa #dancelikeeveryoneiswatching #webroughtbeer #balham #hopcity #instabeer #ratebeer #booze #beerreviews #session #sessionIPA #IPA #DIPA #TIPA #NEIPA #imperialstout #beer #craft #craftbeer #ale #london #craftbeer #dejabrewlondon #cheers #londonlife #craftnotcrap #beerporn #beeroftheday #beergram
