Bloody Mary Beer Tasting
9th December 2017 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pmFree
As we’re approaching Christmas, we thought we’d do something a little different for our next in store tasting and so we have teamed up with Bloody Bens to offer you free Michaledas (or Bloody Mary beers).
A michelada is a Mexican cerveza preparada made with beer, lime juice, and assorted sauces, spices, and peppers. In Latin America, they are often believed to be a folk remedy for hangovers and they are certainly popular with the customers of Ben’s Canteen for that very reason. In terms of the origin of the drink, our favourite story states that a guy called Michel Ésper used to ask for his beer with lime, salt, ice, and a straw, in a special cup called “chabela”, as if it were a beer lemonade. The members of his club started asking for beer as “Michel’s lemonade”, with the name shortening over time to michelada. As time went by, other sauces were added to the original recipe. We don’t mind too much if that story is true or not, because it sounds good enough for us.
Join us this Saturday 9th December between 10am – 2pm to try a michelada, made with Bloody Ben’s bloody mary mix, tomato juice and Flying Dog Numero Uno lager. Cool, crisp and refreshing – perfect for this time of year 😉
